WE CAN PROVIDE ASSISTANCE WITH FURNITURE (FOR SOMEONE WITH NOTHING, WE PROVIDE A FULL SIZED, MATTRESS, BOX SPRINGS AND FRAME, A LAMP AND NIGHTSTAND, A COUCH AND A SMALL DINING ROOM TABLE WITH TWO CHAIRS). WE ALSO PROVIDE HOME FURNISHINGS WHERE NEEDED INCLUDING POTS/PANS, DISHES, DRINKING GLASSES, SILVERWARE, BLANKET, MATTRESS PAD, PILLOWS, PILLOWCASES, SHEETS AND TOWELS/WASH CLOTHES. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
WE ONLY ASSIST RETURNING CITIZENS. THOSE COMING BACK FROM PRISON AND WHO HAVE ALREADY APPLIED TO THAT PROGRAM OF OURS. IF YOU HAVEN’T YET APPLIED TO THAT PROGRAM THEN CLICK HERE FIRST: RETURNING HOPE TO RETURNING CITIZENS AND READ THE INFO AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO APPLY.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ASSISTANCE:
1.
We can't assist if you are behind on any of your utility bills, including any past due bill from a prior residence. Also, property taxes if you own the home must be fully up to date.
2.
All move in costs/rent/security deposit must have been paid to the landlord and your name must be on the lease and you must be the one paying the expenses for the residence.
3.
If you will be living with someone, their name must also be on the lease and they must be contributing to the rent and utilities and currently have an income from employment or Social Security.
4.
If you are to receive rental assistance (i.e. Section 8) , please do not apply until such time as the residence has been approved by the resource that will be providing you rental assistance. Only apply after the residence has passed inspection.
5.
Please note we do not usually help with appliances.
6.
If you meet the requirements, all our furniture is new and purchased and delivered through Al’s Furniture & Appliances in Detroit. The maximum amount is $1100.00 which allows for one full mattress, box spring and frame, a couch, a small dining room table with two chairs, a nightstand and one lamp. Other items can be substituted if requested.
7.
We can also assist with home furnishings if they are needed and which would include: pots/pans, dishes, glasses, silverware, sheets, blanket, mattress pad, pillows, pillowcases and towels.
8.
We must establish that your income will allow you pay your rent and all other monthly bills (for example: food, utilities, transportation expenses, toiletries, phone, child support etc.)
